IBM Sweetens Up Perfetti Van Melle’s IT Experience in India

To provide integrated services management and green data center; to help achieve energy efficiency to the tune of 17 percent

NC News Network, November 3, 2009, 1100 hrs

IBM has announced that it has signed an IT services deal with the Indian subsidiary of Perfetti Van Melle, the world’s third largest confectionary group. As part of this deal, IBM will design and build a green data center, provide the networking infrastructure for the data center as well as offer end-to-end facilities management services to the client.

Through this engagement, IBM aims to provide PVM India with a robust infrastructure management, supporting its ambitious growth plans for the country. IBM will also help PVM India make its IT operations green by aiming to achieve energy efficiency to the tune of 17 percent.

PVM India, which manufactures and markets popular confectionary brands like Center Fresh, Alpenliebe, Mentos, Chlor-Mint and Happydent, among others, operates one of the largest distribution networks and is among the fastest growing FMCG companies in India. In order to support its increasingly complex IT operations and to keep its operational costs low at the same time, PVM India chose IBM to set up a 1,000 sq ft green data center as well provide network management using innovative tools like NOC-Inside (Network Operations Center-Inside).

R Ramesh Chari, CFO, Perfetti Van Melle India said, “At PVM India, we have been striving hard to reduce cost, bring in operational efficiencies and provide quality services to both internal and external customers by leveraging various IT enablers. To achieve these objectives, we have partnered with IBM, which has set up an energy-efficient data center as per our organizational requirement.”

Neeraj Sharma, Director – Integrated Technology Services, IBM India/South Asia said, “IBM engaged with PVM India to understand their unique business requirements and provided best-in-class solutions to meet their aspirations of making their operations Green and highly energy-efficient.”

Through this agreement, signed earlier this year, IBM will manage desktops and networks spanning multiple locations. Also, by leveraging its unique NOC-Inside solution, IBM says it will be able to make the monitoring and management of PVM India’s IT infrastructure easy and process-centric.
