Making IT Run Faster
Traditionally, the IT architecture of most companies is often static, network-centric, and has business processes that operate as islands. In a dynamic world, IT infrastructure needs to change and adapt to meet the growing needs of business. Network Computing, along with F5 Networks, recently organized a seminar which provided an interesting perspective on an agile IT infrastructure.
The event appropriately christened ‘Enhancing IT Agility’, saw experts from F5 Networks, sharing the dais with well-known industry experts such as N Muralidaran, CEO, NSE Infotech; Manoj Chandiramani, Senior Vice President, APAC Head IT Ops, MF Global India; and Suhas Mhaskar, GM, Corporate IT, Mahindra & Mahindra.
Moderated by Val Souza, Editorial Director, UBM India, the event highlighted how companies can use application delivery solutions from companies such as F5 Networks, to accelerate their network performance and meet growing business demands.
Lim Chin Keng, FSE Director, F5 Networks, talked about how virtualization can solve both cost and infrastructure management issues. He explained how organizations can use application delivery controllers to enable application virtualization and reduce latency issues arising from applications being requested from the data center.
Keng also spoke about deploying Infrastructure-as-a-Service which can help organizations to bring down operating and capital expenditure to a significant extent. He also elaborated on F5’s cloud computing approach, wherein the company’s solutions can be used to deploy everything from storage to application acceleration as a service. The event also saw F5 showcasing its BIG-IP v10 solution which is designed to provide features such as unified application delivery, on-demand provisioning, content aware acceleration and brute force attacks protection.
The highlight of the event was a panel discussion on enabling an agile IT infrastructure. The discussion, hosted by Val Souza, saw the panel members providing their insight on how their organizations have made their IT processes agile and cost-efficient.
N Muralidaran from NSE Infotech, provided a glimpse of that which makes his company so ruthlessly efficient. He stated that while it is necessary to improve process speed, it is more important to ensure the quality and reliability of the process. Muralidaran added that this could be done by analyzing the process minutely to determine the part of the process that needs to be changed and the technologies that can help achieve this. Suhas Mhaskar highlighted the importance of transparency in processes, which can create the required visibility for all stakeholders to clearly determine the desired value of the processes. Manoj Chandiramani raised an important point, that to make processes more efficient, it is necessary to have a mediator between IT and business.
