McAfee Unveils its 2009 End User Product Line up

NWC News Network, Oct. 16 2008, 1030 hrs

McAfee has recently announced the 2009 line up of its products for the consumer segments. The new versions of the company’s Total Protection, Internet Security, Anti-Theft Protection, Virus Scan Plus promise benefits such as faster detection, updated protection, better performance with lesser resource utilization and encrypted file protection.

The company promises faster threat protection with the Active Protection technology which intercepts malicious data packets as they reach the user’s system, blocks them and receives updates instantly to mitigate the attack. Instead of daily or hourly updates, the technology ensures updates are applied on a real time basis. The company relies on its large database which ensures that updated virus information is available and sent to the user in time.

The new versions are designed to detect block and remove viruses, spyware, and adware from the system. The anti-phishing and identity protection features will help users shop or conduct banking transactions online safely and alert them when a malicious website tries to steal their identity. The two-way firewall protection will ensure protection from hackers.

The new versions also include a special feature called the Web Site Safety Advisor which keeps a track of websites the user visits and alerts the user when a website is found to be vulnerable to attack and/or malicious. Available as a free bonus download to the Total Protection Suite is and encryption feature which allows users to drag and drop sensitive information such as passwords, pin numbers or financial or personal documents into digital vaults which can be stored with password protection on the hard drive or a USB drive in an encrypted format.

The suites are designed to consume less system resources, require lesser time to load up and will allow PCs to start up faster and also run silently in the background without any pop ups or alerts except for critical situations. The suites are designed to run on Windows Vista and system requirements include a minimum of 256 MB of RAM and 150 MB of free hard drive space and an internet connection.

The Virus Scan Plus 2009 for a single user is priced at Rs 1,499 while the three user license is available at Rs 2,299. The Internet Security 2009with a three user license is available for Rs 2,699, the Total Protection 2009 is available for Rs 2,699 and the Anti-Theft suite is available priced at Rs 1199.

Is it possible for the existing McAfee Total Protection license users to upgrade to this new version automatically or they need to pay any additional price for this ??
