Online Transactions to Get Secure with VeriSign EV SSL Protection on IE 7

NWC News Network, May 08 2008, 1300 hrs

Mumbai based Adweb Technologies, a Verisign SSL Platinum Partner, has announced plans to offer support for Verisign Extended Validation SSL Certificates. The company plans on targeting banks in the country with local support and service.

The company is pushing IE 7 as the preferred browser, for its ability to recognize the VeriSign Extended Validation Secure Sockets Layer Certificates. Displayed as a green bar, it signals to consumers that they have reached a legitimate site protected by VeriSign.

By deploying EV SSL Certificates, online banks, retailers and other businesses help build trust and confidence among consumers by offering them immediate and visible assurance that they are dealing with a reputable e-commerce site. In addition to the green address bar, IE 7 also displays other visual cues, including a lock icon next to the address, and a new field that contains the name of the organization that owns the site as well as the security provider that issued the certificate.

The company estimates that the number of sites live with an EV SSL Certificate is approximately 50,000, which is fast increasing with IE 7 estimated to have a user base of over 100 million.

Giving a further boost to this is the endorsement of the EV SSL Certificates by the Authentication and Online Trust Alliance (AOTA), which is expected to drive acceptability.
