After the announcement of a new Chairman and Vice Chairman, Nasscom, has unveiled its roadmap for FY 2009. The roadmap indicates a multi pronged agenda and has identified six themes for this year which will work as vectors for the organization to plan initiatives and focused programs around.
According to Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman, Nasscom and Global CEO, Zensar Technologies, “We are going to focus on creativity to enhance the existing opportunity to add new revenues over the next five years through product, process and business model innovation. In addition to community and collaboration, the new thrust areas that we have identified include, societal development and inclusivity, green IT and education & skill building, are all extremely critical for sustaining the long term global leadership that this industry aspires to achieve.”
Talking about the enhanced focus on the BPO sector, Pramod Bhasin, Vice Chairman Nasscom and President & CEO, Genpact said, “We now see a great need for increased collaboration of the IT and BPO sectors. Through Nasscom we will be planning to focus on education and security, since these are critical pillars for the industry’s objectives.”
Som Mittal, President, Nasscom said, “Taking the first step in adopting and raising awareness about issues and initiatives that are critical to the industry. Towards this objective we are encouraging environmental responsibility aided by the search for greater productivity and competitiveness, reducing waste and increasing efficiency under the ‘Green IT’ initiative, which is one of the six point agenda for this year.”
Additionally increased focus towards scaling and continuing initiatives towards education and skill building, global trade development and synchronizing the education initiatives with the Government’s Skill mission are key areas.
Mittal further added “In order to further strengthen our approach in the BPO sector we have appointed Raju Bhatnagar as Vice President Nasscom. His domain expertise in the BPO sector will be of great value to us and the industry. We are also looking to further scale and continue the momentum on initiatives underway like NAC, NAC Tech and NSR."
