Wipro Wins Award for its UC Solution Deployment

NWC News Network, Dec. 10 2008, 1000 hrs

Wipro Technologies has recently announced that it has won the Network World Asia IT All Stars Award 2008 for the innovative use of technology to solve a business problem. The company was given the award for using a Unified Communications solution to conduct candidate interviews over the telephone.

The company chose Nortel’s IP Phone 1535, a high-resolution IP video phone and the Nortel Multimedia Communications Server (MCS 5100) with an aim to deploy a unified communications solution that would seamlessly integrate IP telephony to solve connectivity issues during candidate interviews and help it keep up with recruitment of over 20,000 new employees every year. The use of video phones also made the interaction more personal with no chances of impersonation.

“We are happy to be recognized for innovative usage of technology in an industry where finding the right candidate is so important. Nortel’s Unified Communications solution has helped us achieve our recruitment objectives and the entire process has become as simple as dialing a phone number with all the benefits of face-to-face interview,” said Jethin Chandran, general manager, IT architecture planning, Wipro.

The solution has helped the company substantially reduce the turn around time in the interview process as well as the number of fake resumes that it receives.

The company was chosen as one of the winners based on the size of the project, amount of investment and the involvement of other business processes. The evaluation also considered the value of the project to the company such as return on investment, business efficiency and its influence on the company’s income-earning potential.
