D-link Unveils its Video-over-IP Phone

D-link India has recently introduced its Voice over IP (VoIP) Video phone called the GVC-3000. Along with the video phone the company also introduced its new mid-range IP phone GLV-540. Both the products have been indigenously developed and manufactured by the company.



The video phone is an SIP based video or Video-over-IP phone that supports the H.264, H.263, H.263+ and MPEG4 video codec. The device features a five inch LCD display which aims to provide a user friendly interface for making and receiving calls. It can send and receive video at CIF or QCIF resolution at a rate of 30 frames per second with its CMOS camera. Both the screen and the camera are adjustable to the user’s convenience. The device promises higher audio and video quality with advanced Jitter Buffer Management and perfect Lip Synchronization. It also features a TV-out port that enable video output over a TV screen.


The phone which connects to an IPPBX will provide all essential telephony features such as call forwarding, call hold, find me-follow me and also voicemail functions such as voicemail to email forwarding and voicemail retrieval over the phone. The support for SIP standards makes the device inter-operable with other SIP based servers. It can provide video telephony at a bandwidth as low as 128 kbps and also supports communication with dual mode (GSM and Wi-Fi) phones offered by third party vendors.


The GLV-540 is specifically designed for small and medium business environments with lesser number of employees. The device is also an SIP based phone with multi user and multi line support. It features a large LCD display for better readability and soft keys, speaker phone and head phone support for ease of use. Telephony features include caller ID and call duration display, call logs for received, dialed and missed and message waiting features. Other features include dual Ethernet ports with Auto-switching, Power over Ethernet and support for Wideband codec for high quality conferencing. It also supports logical partitioning there by making the device regulation compliant.


The company which currently has 300 pieces ready for sale priced at around Rs 25,000. The company plans to sell the device at much lower prices following an increase in sales volume. It is currently looking at product deployment with the police force of a state government which it chose not to disclose.
