Sun Microsystems Appoints K.P Unnikrishnan as Regional Marketing Director

Following the formation of a new emerging markets sales geography to drive accelerated expansion and sales coverage across growing markets in South and Eastern Europe, Latin America, India and Greater China, Sun Microsystems announced the appointment of K.P.Unnikrishnan as Regional Marketing Director Sun Microsystems, Emerging Markets (LATAM, EMMA, Greater China & India).



K.P.Unnikrishnan, who is currently Director Marketing, Alliances & Teleweb Sales for Sun India will move on to head the marketing operations of this emerging markets region with immediate effect .


Speaking about his new role, Unnikrishnan said, “I am elated to take on this new role. Each GEM in this region presents huge growth potential and opportunity for the company’s overall performance and momentum. These developing economies have underlying commonality, which presents indigenous opportunity for the governments, businesses, and the developers looking to the network for opportunity. The formation of the emerging markets geography recognizes and rewards the performance of all these regions, which will help accelerate expansion and sales coverage for Sun Microsystems.”


The company’s emerging markets region was announced in June 2008 and will be led by Denis Heraud, Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific. Heraud will take on an expanded charter to lead the united emerging markets territory. As part of its most recent third quarter fiscal 2008 results, the company reported impressive growth in emerging markets including 20 percent year-over-year growth in Brazil, 30 percent year-over-year growth in India and 18 percent growth in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe region.


Unnikrishnan has been with Sun for the last 9 years and has received numerous recognitions worldwide and at APAC-level at Sun. He was also named as one of the Top 20 marketing practitioners and visionaries in India by a leading advertising and marketing publication.
