Available with a lifetime warranty in India from March end, the ZoneFlex 7962 is priced at Rs 61,938.  While the Smart/OS 8 is a free upgrade to customers with support contracts, the ZoneDirector 3500 will be available in the second half of 2009.

Juniper high-performance scalable gateways

Juniper Networks has recently expanded its SRX Series arsenal with the SRX3000 line of extensible gateways. Targeted at data center, enterprise, public sector and service provider environments, the gateways are designed to deliver the flexibility, security, scalability, operational simplicity and reliability required by high-performance businesses to deploy next-generation services.

The line-up includes the SRX3600 gateway, designed to enable a no-compromise 10 GE network environment that can support 30 Gbps of stateful firewall, up to 10 Gbps of VPN, 10 Gbps of IPS, and 175,000 new connections per second. It also includes the SRX3400, which can support 20 Gbps of stateful firewall, up to 6 Gbps of VPN, 6 Gbps of IPS, and 175,000 new connections per second. Both gateways are based on a mid-plane design, promising twice the flexibility of other units of similar size.

In addition to delivering firewall services, the gateways natively integrate multiple services such as Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDos/DoS) protection, Network Address Translation (NAT), policy and control, identity management, and Quality of Service (QoS). The gateways are built on the company’s Dynamic Services Architecture which offers a dedicated dual management engine and a purpose-built, carrier-class terabit speed fabric technology. This technology has been designed to enable fast, reliable and secure access to applications and services from a single network architecture, running on a single operating system, managed by a single management framework.

The extensibility of the SRX Series promises to offer scalable performance, based on the appropriate footprint, types of services, and number of input/output and Services Processing Cards (SPCs).  The gateways run on JUNOS which helps to automate network operations by providing a single consistent implementation of features across the network, in a single release train designed to minimize the complexity, cost and risk associated with implementing network features and upgrades.

The services gateways are currently available with the SRX3400 chassis priced at Rs 25,00,000 onwards, while the SRX3600 chassis starts at Rs 30,00,000.

NETGEAR ProSafe managed switch

NETGEAR has recently introduced its new ProSafe FSM7226RS, 24-Port 10/100 MBPS L2 Managed Stackable Switch with static routes.

Colors can be fine-tuned with the company’s 3D Color Management feature that enables independent adjustment of hue, saturation and boldness of all six color wheel tones (red, green, blue, cyan, white and yellow) without compromising any color.

The MP727 projector will be available, at a price of Rs 1,68,000, through BenQ dealers.

Seagate 6 Gbps SATA interface

Seagate, in collaboration with AMD, has recently unveiled the next-generation high-speed data transfer Serial ATA connectivity interface with speeds of up to 6 Gigabits per second for bandwidth-hungry desktop and laptop applications including gaming, streaming video and graphics multimedia.

Serial ATA (SATA), the mainstream storage interface for desktop and notebook disk drives, is currently available in two speeds, 3 Gb/second and 1.5 Gb/second. SATA 6 Gb/second was developed by the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) under the Serial ATA Revision 3.0 specification.

The third generation of the mainstream storage interface for desktop and notebook computers also enhances power efficiency and improves Native Command Queuing (a SATA feature to increase overall system performance and data transfer speeds of mainstream PC applications), and especially applications with heavily transactional workloads, such as scientific modeling and forecasting, and engineering design and simulation.

In keeping with SATA-IO objectives for designing a low-cost interface for desktop and notebook PCs, SATA 6 Gb/second maintains the low cost and low-power design requirements of previous SATA generations and is designed to be backward compatible with SATA 3 Gb/second connectors, cables and other hardware.
The SATA interface will deliver burst speeds of up to 6 Gigabits per second, for all PC applications, while maintaining backward compatibility with the SATA 3 Gb/second and SATA 1.5 Gb/second interfaces; the interface uses the same cables and connectors as previous SATA generations to ease integration.

RSA enhanced enVision platform

RSA has recently introduced the enhanced version of enVision, its log management solution for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM).  The new enhancements will allow customers to assign risk values to certain threats and enable IT organizations to fine-tune the effectiveness of security policies, processes and resources.

The enVision 4.0 platform is designed to simplify compliance, enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of security operations and risk mitigation, and optimize IT and network operations (through the automated collection, analysis, alerting, auditing, reporting and storage of IT log data). Beyond analyzing and correlating alerts on log data from all event sources, the RSA enVision platform is designed to enable organizations to efficiently pinpoint where potential security problems are most likely to occur.

The new enhancements will help the solution provide relevant and real-time information to security analysts by integrating with common configuration management and vulnerability assessment solutions and providing regular threat and vulnerability information; by notifying analysts when high risk vulnerabilities are discovered or when attackers try to exploit those vulnerabilities; and by providing improved correlation rules that can be easily tailored to the customer’s environment to help detect the highest priority threats.

The solution now provides an interface designed for investigating security issues so that the analyst can easily evaluate events leading up to the incident and monitor a specific problem that evolves in real-time. It is designed to make more asset and vulnerability information available to security analysts and to give analysts additional context as they investigate an incident. With its closed-loop integration with trouble ticketing systems, it will auto-escalate incidents to a trouble ticketing system and send the status back to the enVision platform. Once closed it will allow security operation processes to be better aligned with wider enterprise operation functions such as service level management.

The new enhanced reporting features promise to provide security managers with the ability to identify bottlenecks in the incident handling process with reports on how incidents are created, escalated and responded to. With improved asset and vulnerability information being available in reports, the enhancements also promise to allow security managers and analysts to prioritize activities by evaluating which of their hosts are the most vulnerable or are at the highest risk to be attacked. The solution with its new enhancements also promises to provide better access to threat and attack trend information, allowing managers and architects to provide visibility into the working of their security controls.

The series features four gigabit enterprise-class switches with 10 gigabit (10G) options and are designed for deployment at converged enterprise edge, data center top-of-rack and remote branch offices.

The series features the ProCurve 2910al-24G managed switch with 24 10/100/1000 ports along with four dual personality gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+) and the ProCurve 2910al-48G managed switch with 48 10/100/1000 ports along with four dual personality gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+).

It also includes the ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+ managed switch with 48 10/100/1000 ports capable of supporting PoE+ with four dual personality Gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+). The switch supports IEEE 802.3at for Power over Ethernet Plus and provides up to 30W per port. A redundant power supply is also available as an accessory.

The switches are designed to reduce power usage and promise up to 23 percent energy cost savings when compared to the industry average, based on typical usage costs. They are standards-based and offer interoperability in multi-vendor network environments.
