Asus Introduces the R2E
Asus has recently unveiled its latest notebook for the Ultra Mobile PC segment. Called the R2E, the touchscreen notebook aims to provide a higher level of on-the-go computing. The notebook based on the Intel 945GU Express chipset runs on an Intel Stealey A110 processor with a clock speed of 800 MHz, FSB speed of 400 MHz and 512K of L2 cache memory. It has 1 GB of DDR2 memory and features a seven inch ActiveMatrix TFT touchscreen featuring the company’s SunRead glare proof panel that gives a clear display even in bright sunlight. It runs on genuine Windows Vista Edition with Microsoft Origami Experience Pack software. The notebook has an ergonomic hardware interface with all the function keys laid out on both sides of the front panel, including mouse, scroll buttons, hot keys as well as an on-screen keypad. It also features a DigiPen stylus with an eraser and mouse control buttons so that users can access a wide range of functions and applications single handedly. The notebook features a built in GPS which along with Internet access even offers off road positioning capabilities. It features a retractable antenna and also a remote controller that can be used for live TV, movies or music. It also features a 1.3 megapixel web camera. The notebook also supports an on board 10/100 LAN, Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) and 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN for wireless connectivity. The notebook which comes bundled with an optional USB foldable keyboard will be available nationwide through Rashi Peripherals and Net Place Technologies priced approximately at Rs 64,900.
Linksys unveils its small business NAS
Linksys has recently introduced its first line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems for small business environments. The NSS4000 and the NSS6000 which are a part of the line up are aimed to provide small businesses with better storage, backup, data protection and scalability features at lower costs. The NSS4000 which is the 4-bay Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis and the NSS6000 which is the 4-bay Advanced Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis do not include hard drives allowing users to choose the storage capacity based on their requirements. The chassis’ also support hot swapping of drives allowing users to interchange drives when required. Both the devices include features like RAID 0, 1, 1 + Spare, 5, 5 + Spare, 10, JBOD capabilities and Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART). The NSS6000 includes the Network Snap Shot feature for data recovery and also supports data aggregation over the network. The chassis’ support 802.1p, 802.1q, Quality of Service (QoS), Cable Diagnostic and Enterprise LAN features and also provide secure FTPS (FTP over SSL) access. The NSS4000 is scalable up to 15 simultaneous user connections on Windows/MAC via Common Internet File System (CIFS) and while the NSS6000 supports up to 75 simultaneous user connections. The NSS4000 and NSS6000 are available through authorized distributors priced at Rs 74,999 and Rs 107,999 respectively.
