Apple introduces macbook pro models

Apple has updated its popular Macbook and Macbook Pro notebook lines with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives and 2GB of memory standard in most models. In addition, Macbook Pro includes the latest NVIDIA graphics processors, now with up to 512MB of video memory, and multi-touch trackpad, first introduced in Macbook Air. All Mac notebooks include a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing on-the-go, Macsafe power adapter that safely disconnects when under strain and built-in 802.11n wireless networking for up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g.
The new Macbook Pro features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo technology with up to a 2.6 GHz processor with 6MB of shared L2 cache; up to 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory and up to a 300GB hard drive, plus NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with up to 512MB of video memory. Every Macbook Pro now includes a trackpad with multi-touch gesture support for pinch, rotate and swipe, making it more intuitive than ever to zoom and rotate photos in iPhoto or Aperture2 or browse web pages in Safari; an illuminated keyboard that makes it ideal for dimly lit environments such as airplanes, studios or conference halls and a built-in ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the keys as well as the brightness of the display for optimal visibility.
Featuring a 13-inch glossy widescreen display, and with prices starting Rs. 54,800, the new Macbook lineup comes in three models and includes faster processors and larger hard drives across the line; sleek white 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz models with 120GB or 160GB 5400 rpm hard drives and black 2.4 GHz model with a massive 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive, previously only available as an option. The 2.4 GHz Macbook models ship with 2GB of memory standard, expandable up to 4GB across the line. All models run the sixth release of Leopard.

 

WatchGuard’s new SSL VPN Gear

Watchguard has announced Watchguard SSL 1000 and Watchguard SSL 500, appliances that are designed to give remote and mobile workers secure connectivity to their corporate network.
Both the appliances, according to a company release, utilize web browsers or thin clients, end-point integrity checking, network interface control, as well as virtual desktops and session cleanup to deliver business applications right to the user. WatchGuard SSL 1000 and 500 incorporate a range of authentication, identity management and security features, as well as support for a whole range of devices, giving users a secure remote access through a broad set of access options. 
Key features include Clientless SSL VPN Access, which eliminates the hassle of having to install proprietary software on every client device, while giving employees full remote access to all their applications; Strong Authentication which allows administrators to use SMS and software-based two-factor authentication, as well as 14 additional methods of authentication, including token support for  RSA, VASCO and VeriSign. It also offers support for Single Sign On.
The Federated Identity feature allows for environments, such as business-to-business networks or company/departmental relationships, to give users seamless access to multiple or disparate resources. Endpoint Integrity examines every user device before it connects to the network, which enforces security policies.
The WatchGuard SSL 1000 with a 10 user license is priced at $8,500 and the WatchGuard SSL 500 with a 10 user license at $5,000.

 

Radware launches On Demand Switch

Radware announced its OnDemand Switch, a new hardware platform for Application Delivery Controllers. As per a press release; the OnDemand Switch allows end-users to increase throughput levels without the need to swap-out the existing IT hardware infrastructures.
Higher throughput is enabled through a simple license update, eliminating any associated disruptive downtime. This operational approach provides flexibility, with enhanced functionality to address all IP application requirements – from on-going operations, maintenance and business growth demands to network layers 4-7.
Radware’s OnDemand Switch layer 4-7 operations use hardware architecture for optimized resource utilization, maximal application performance, top reliability and manageability. In addition, the OnDemand Switch provides continuous guaranteed availability and enhanced security of remote management system, as management ports use a separate, out-of-band management data path.
Radware’s new OnDemand Switch platform bridges the gap between IT infrastructure and business applications for comprehensive control of mission critical operations across the enterprise. Some key benefits include purpose-built hardware architecture with carrier-grade reliability delivering between 2.5 to 10 times better performance of existing solutions.

 

Lumension Unveils Security Solution

Lumension Security announced the introduction of PatchLink Security Configuration Management (SCM).
A company press release stated that PatchLink SCM leverages the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) and is seamlessly integrated into Lumension Security’s proven, market-leading solutions, PatchLink Scan and PatchLink Update.  The PatchLink SCM solution provides both commercial and government entities with out-of-the-box regulatory and best-practices templates to ensure that all of their systems and applications are properly configured.
 With PatchLink SCM, organizations can monitor and verify the organization’s compliance with both federal and commercial regulatory requirements.  This is accomplished by automatically mapping security policies and controls to recognized industry best practices.

 

Gigabyte’s energy saver motherboards

Gigabyte announced the launch of their full range of Dynamic Energy Saver motherboards, including X48, X38 and P35-based motherboards, which deliver power saving up to 70 percent, and up to 20 percent improvement in the power efficiency.
Featuring an advanced proprietary software and hardware design, including high quality components from Intersil, the user-friendly Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver motherboards are paired with Intel 45nm CPUs and provide power savings and improved power efficiency. The Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver also features multiple gears, allowing the CPU to maintain optimum power efficiency from light all the way to heavy loading. It also allows users to turn on and off the power-saving features with a simple click of the Dynamic Energy Saver button. In Meter Mode, it shows how much power users have saved in a set period of time. In Total Mode, users are able to see how much total power savings they have accumulated since activating the energy saver for the first time.
Gigabyte’s energy saver technology’s CPU voltage control can be adjusted according to power saving needs.
